George Pelekis was born in Athens, Greece and got involved in martial arts in 1985, at a time when karate and other arts flourished in the country.
He first became interested in Kajukenbo (Hawaiian style) and later in Ed Parker’s Kenpo Karate (American style) till he reached the rank of Black Belt 2nd Dan.
Being a seeker of tradition his quest led him to Japanese traditional Karate and in particular Shito ryu style in the year of 1996.
He has participated with distinguished success in many National and International Championships and has attended many seminars with world famous instructors.
He has also conducted Karate seminars, including specialized self-defense for V.I.P. Protection crew, Police and Army forces. He has performed countless demonstrations in Greece and abroad.
Many of his students – athletes that he trained over the years, have been distinguished in Hellenic, Balkan, International Championships and have been members of the National Karate Team. It must also be noticed that many of his students have developed in instructors as well.
On June 2001, he successfully passed the test for 3rd Dan in Shito ryu Karate do (Hayashi-Ha style).
In 2006, he met the world famous Greek-Australian Sensei Con Kassis, a personal student of Soke Kenei Mabuni since 1987. Being accepted as a student of Sensei Con Kassis, George Pelekis has been following closely the Mabuni line, a fact that changed his life dramatically since his love and devotion in Shito ryu Karate has become more intense.
On January 2008, in Osaka, he has been welcomed in Soke Kenei Mabuni’s personal dojo and has been granted exclusively, the honor to represent the Mabuni family and the name of "Yoshukan" in Greece, following the suggestion of Sensei Con Kassis.
He was tested personally by Soke Kenei Mabuni during a training trip to Japan on April 2009, and has been awarded the rank of 4th Dan.
On April 2013, and at the very same dojo, ''Yoshukan'' Honbu (headquarter) in Osaka, he was tested again by Soke Kenei Mabuni achieving successfully the rank of 5th Dan.
Ιn Singapore, on December 2014, he was awarded with the title of jun-Shihan by the World Shito-ryu Karate-do Federation after examination during an Asian Pasific Championship.
On May 3, 2017, while he was once again in Japan with a group of his students for training in the legendary "Yoshukan" dojo in Osaka, with the noticeable absence of Soke Kenei Mabuni who passed away on December 19,2015, he was tested in their presence by his son and successor to Shito-ryu Karate-do, Soke Kenyu Mabuni, for the level of 6th Dan, and managed to pass successfully.
George Pelekis is an official representative of World Shito ryu Karate do Federation (WSKF) in Greece, while on a daily basis he teaches in a club Shito ryu Karate do and Tamiya ryu - ZNKR Iaido (Japanese swordsmanship).
He also has the rank of 5th Dan Iaido and is a member of Technical and Examination commitee of Hellenic Kendo-Iaido Federation.
